Expressions of interest are now open for the Crisafulli Government’s new Crime Prevention Schools, with Rockhampton set to benefit from one of three new facilities aimed at tackling youth crime and restoring community safety.
The new schools – located in Townsville, Ipswich, and Rockhampton – will join the successful Men of Business Academy on the Gold Coast, where expansion is already underway.
These institutions will deliver tailored education and life skills to re-engage at-risk youth and prevent crime before it starts.
Donna Kirkland State Member for Rockhampton welcomed the announcement, saying the initiative is a much-needed intervention for the region.
“For too long, young people in Rockhampton and Gracemere have been caught in a cycle of disadvantage and disengagement, thanks to Labor’s youth crime crisis, and a Crime Prevention School will give at-risk kids the chance to turn their lives around,”
“We know one of the best ways to reduce crime is to intervene early, before young people go down the path of a life of crime. This school will offer structure, support, and purpose to kids who’ve been let down for too long.”
“This is about giving young people in Rockhampton a second chance – an opportunity to reconnect with education, build resilience, and develop the skills they need to contribute positively to our community. It’s a proactive step toward safer streets and stronger futures” said Kirkland.
The Crime Prevention Schools will cater to students in grades 7–12, offering a structured and supportive environment that combines academic learning with practical life skills. The goal is to prepare students for employment or further study while reducing youth offending and victimisation across Queensland.
Expressions of interest for the Townsville, Ipswich and Rockhampton Crime Prevention Schools close on 26 September 2025.
