Better access to aged-care for Moura community
- The sod has officially been turned to signal the work ahead for the expansion of Moura Multipurpose Health Service.
- The $17.2 million project will provide eight aged-care beds and four hospital beds once it’s complete.
- Work began in July 2025 and is expected to be complete in mid-2026.
The Crisafulli Government is pressing ahead on construction to deliver the Moura Multipurpose Health Service expansion providing more residential aged care for the growing community.
The expansion includes eight residential aged-care beds, along with a new kitchen and laundry, a converted storeroom, reception and lounge areas, car parks with a drop-off zone, and outdoor spaces for residents and visitors.
Member for Callide Bryson Head said this expansion was about making health care easier to access, no matter where Queenslanders live.
“This project is about making sure people in Moura don’t have to leave their community when the need specialist aged care,” Mr Head said.
“Families shouldn’t have to choose between being together and getting the right care – this expansion means they’ll have both.
“The new aged-care wing will connect seamlessly to the existing Moura Multipurpose Health Service and deliver modern health facilities for the region.
“This asset has been fought for by the Moura community for many years, and it is a credit to their efforts that this is finally pressing ahead.
“The expanded service will also help us to attract and retain more skilled health workers to the region. That means stronger services, more staff, and world-class care for years to come.”
Assistant Minister for Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Treatment, Families and Seniors and Central Queensland, Donna Kirkland MP, said that the expansion to the services in Moura benefits more than just the residents of the aged care facility.
“This expansion also provides peace of minds for residents, their families and provides jobs for the local people of Moura.
“To see the community coming together through consultation and support from Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service is commendable.
This is a great outcome for the Moura Community and Central Queensland.”
Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service Chief Executive Lisa Blackler said it was exciting to see works starting on this important project for the Moura community.
“We recently held a community survey, and more than 50 residents had their say, opting for tones of green,” Ms Blackler said
“The votes were cast at two community sessions at the Moura library, as well as through an online survey.
“It’s fabulous that the community has shown such interest in this project, and the fresh, natural tones of green will complement the current building’s green exterior.”
Contractor Bridgeman has commenced early works, with the project expected to be completed by mid-2026, weather permitting.
